One of the scariest games in recent memory is headed to the big screen, and the movie has just found its director.

According to Deadline, Gil Kenan has just signed on to direct the Five Nights at Freddy's movie. Kenan is known for directing the recent Poltergeist remake as well as the animated film Monster House.

Five Nights at Freddy’s will be based on the survival-horror PC game that became something of an online sensation over the past few years. The game takes place in a Chuck E. Cheese style restaurant where all of the animatronic animals come to life. You play as a security guard who must survive through the night, and it's just as terrifying as that sounds.

The script for the film will be written by Gil Kenan and Tyler Burton Smith, a video game writer who has worked on Prototype 2 and Sleeping Dogs.

This is the latest in a series of upcoming video game movie adaptations including Assassin's Creed and Warcraft. Movies based on games haven't had a great track record over the years, but with some pretty impressive talent behind them, could these films be the ones to break that curse?

Five Nights at Freddy’s 4: The Final Chapter is now available on Steam.
