Saoirse Ronan heads to New York in the new film Brooklyn, in which she plays an Irish immigrant whose life changes when she crosses the Atlantic.
The new trailer shows Ellis Lacey (Ronan) leaving Ireland and arriving in 1950s Brooklyn. At first, she spends most of her time with other Irish immigrants, but she starts getting used to her new surroundings. She eventually meets Tony (Emory Cohen), who comes from an Italian family. Later though, Ellis has to go back to Ireland and she has to chose between her two lives.
Brooklyn does lean a bit on the fluffy romantic side, but there should be enough drama here to keep the movie interesting. Ronan received great reviews for her performance after the film was shown at Sundance.
Directed by John Crowley, the film is based on Colm Toibin’s novel and was written by An Education’s Nick Hornby. Fox Searchlight will release the film in select theaters on Nov. 6.
