In what could to be shaping up as the summer of the shark part two, there has been yet another attack in North Carolina.

CNN noted that the attack occurred on Wednesday at Ocracoke Island in the Outer Banks. The 68-year-old male victim was swimming just past where the waves were breaking when he was attacked and pulled underwater by a shark. He sustained injuries to his torso, hands and hip and was flown to an area hospital for treatment.

Sarah Johnson, a spokeswoman for Hyde County, said the shark that attacked the man was about 6 or 7 feet in length.

The attack marks the 10th in the Carolinas so far this summer and the seventh in North Carolina alone.

Experts are uncertain exactly why there is such a spike in attacks. As previously reported, some believe it could be due to fishing on the beaches or sharks moving into the shallows following sea turtles that hatch their eggs on the beach.
