Record label owner and reality television show creator Simon Cowell has congratulated former One Direction member Zayn Malik for signing a solo record deal.

Female First reported that after 22-year-old Malik broke the news on Twitter, Cowell said that the label, RCA Records, was “perfect” for his career.

Malik is a former client of Syco Records, which is owned by Simon Cowell. Cowell revealed on his Twitter account, “We have been working on this [deal] for a while and I am pleased to say congratulations to @ZaynMalik on signing with @RCARecords”

Cowell said he believes that RCA Records is the perfect place for Zayn Malik to focus on his solo career, and Malik agreed, posting on Twitter that he can’t wait to show the fans who he really is.

Meanwhile Malik’s former group, One Direction, is making headlines for releasing their first single, “Drag Me Down,” since Malik’s departure from the group. Band member Liam Payne said in a video released on the band’s Twitter, “It’s the first song from the new album that we’ve been working very, very, very hard on. We can’t wait for you to hear it.”
