Three journalists from Spain went missing over a week ago in Syria and now authorities fear that they may have been abducted.

The New York Times reported that the president of the Federation of Press Associations said that Antonio Pampliega, José Manuel López and Ángel Sastre went missing on July 13 while working in the Syrian city of Aleppo.

The three men are believed to have entered the country through Turkey, CNN noted.

"We are now working to find them but for the time being we don't know where they are," a joint statement from their families read.

Fears of what happened to them are heightened because of the presence of extremist groups in the area and the fact that other journalists have been kidnapped there in the past. Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said that "no theory is being ruled out."

Spanish officials have stressed that they do not have any information on the whereabouts of the trio at this time, but are working tirelessly to locate them.
