Veteran actor Tommy Lee Jones is going to add some authority to the new Bourne movie in the works from Universal, Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass.
The casting was first reported by Variety and also confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. It’s not clear who Jones will play, but Variety’s sources say that he will play a superior CIA officer, similar to the roles played by David Strathairn, Chris Cooper and Edward Norton in past Bourne movies.
Jones joins Bourne veteran Julia Stiles, as well as Viggo Mortensen and Alicia Vikander.
Greengrass is directing and co-writing the script with Christopher Rouse. Frank Marshall is again producing the film, with Jeffrey Weiner, Greengrass, Damon, Ben Smith and Greg Goodman. The executive producers are Henry Morrison and Rouse.
Production on Damon’s first Bourne movie since 2007’s The Bourne Ultimatum starts next month and Universal is hoping to get the film out on July 29, 2016.
Audiences last saw Jones in his underrated Western The Homesman with Hilary Swank. He’s currently finishing work on Criminal with Ryan Reynolds, which hits theaters in January.
