This week’s column is jam-packed with action, drama, thrills and fantasy. Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, is the long-awaited film where the two most famous superheroes in pop culture collide. Creed follows renowned boxer Rocky Balboa as he trains the son of his deceased friend/former rival, Apollo Creed, to be the next great boxing champion. Finally, London Has Fallen revolves around one man’s fight to stop the assassinations of many world leaders. All three films are sure to bring pulse-pounding excitement, high emotionality and edge of your seat thrills to moviegoers. In addition, two of these motion pictures audiences have been waiting with bated breath for, which is sure to bring them in droves to their local theaters on each flick’s opening day. Plus, two of these films contain much loved characters in very sensitive plotlines, which could be either pleasing to fans or very unattractive.
Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is the much anticipated actioner starring Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne and Henry Cavill reprising his role as Superman/Clark Kent. Other co-stars include Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Gal Gadot, Holly Hunter, Jesse Eisenberg, Laurence Fishburne and Jeremy Irons. The film’s plot has finally been revealed as having two of society’s greatest superheroes face-off against each other while an even greater evil lurks in the shadows. The film’s teaser trailer displays the public beginning to question both superheroes and their place in society and at the same time, both Superman and Batman are doing the same. It opens in theaters on Friday, March 25, 2016.
Creed is a sports drama starring Sylvester Stallone, once again playing the celebrated heavyweight champion boxer Rocky Balboa. Co-starring with Stallone is The Fantastic Four’s Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Creed, the son of Rocky’s deceased friend and former boxing rival, Apollo Creed. Also starring in the film are Graham McTavish from the hit Starz original series Outlander and Phylicia Rashad. This time out, Rocky becomes the trainer and mentor of his former friend/rival’s son in the boxing ring. The flick’s trailer shows how Adonis trains, but doesn’t seem to have the heart for the sport that his father had, until he hooks up with Rocky, who agrees to train him. A bond then begins to develop between them reminiscent of Rocky’s bond with Apollo. It opens in theaters on Wednesday, November 25.
London Has Fallen is an crime thriller starring Gerard Butler, Morgan Freeman, Melissa Leo, Charlotte Riley, Angela Bassett, Radha Mitchell, Aaron Eckhart and Jackie Earle Haley. Butler plays Mike Banning, a Secret Service agent, who is attending the funeral of Britain’s Prime Minister, who died under mysterious circumstances. He then learns that the service is part of a diabolical plot to assassinate the world’s leaders. So, it’s up to Banning, US President Benjamin Asher (Eckhart) and a British MI6 Agent (Riley,) to thwart this deadly plot. This thriller’s teaser trailer demonstrates how the city of London is in complete chaos after explosion after explosion decimates the city and its historical landmarks, leaving its citizens in utter terror. It opens in theaters on Friday, January 22, 2016.
