U2 and HBO announced today that the band will star in two specials, both covering their current iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE world tour. The first will be a behind-the-scenes look at the shows and the second is a full broadcast of their Paris concert.
The behind-the-scenes documentary will debut on Nov. 7. It will look at the creation of the tour, which is meant to promote their latest album, Songs of Innocence. The tour started in May and is scheduled to run through November.
In the new film, Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr all sit down for interviews, along with comments from the production team. It also covers Bono’s bicycle accident from last fall, which forced them to delay the tour.
A week later on Nov. 14, U2’s entire Paris show at the Bercy Arena will air on HBO to give viewers a look at the final product.
Producers on the documentary include Davis Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth, From The Sky Down) and Shannon Dill. Guggenheim directed the film. The concert was produced by Done And Dusted.
“U2 continues to take risks, which has made them one of the most consistently exciting forces in rock’n’roll,” Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming, said in a statement. “The one-two combination of this documentary special, followed by the concert, will provide viewers with the ultimate look at this remarkable band behind the scenes and on the stage.”
