Wesley Snipes has a new project in the works, but it surprisingly isn’t a movie. However, he could have one on the horizon.
During an interview with Deadline at the San Diego Comic-Con, where he is supposed to be promoting NBC’s The Player. Still, the site asked him about Blade, the Marvel vampire hunter he played in three films between 1998 and 2004.
Snipes said that he has actually met with Marvel, which now has the film rights. Therefore, a fourth Blade movie would be produced by the Disney-owned studio.
“The project is controlled by Marvel and we did have a really productive and a wonderful meeting and we discussed a number of things,” Snipes explained. “I don’t know where it’s on their schedule at this point, that hasn’t been decided. I guess it’s still up in the air.”
When asked if it was possible that Blade could join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Snipes said it was a possibility. He’s a fan of Marvel’s movies, but he’s still not sure if the studio would want to make a fourth solo Blade movie or if he would even play something else.
“We have some other characters and some other concepts that are going to be just as exciting and hopefully just as successful,” he teased.
Snipes stars in The Player, a new drama that will premiere this fall on Thursdays.
As for Blade, Snipes played the character in 1998’s Blade, 2002’s Blade II (which was actually helmed by Guillermo Del Toro) and 2004’s Blade: Trinity. The films were produced by New Line, but since the studio hasn’t done anything with the franchise since Trinity, the film rights have reverted back to Marvel.
