Curtis Jones, a convicted murderer who went to jail at the age of 12, was released on Tuesday at the age of 29. His sister, Catherine Jones, 30, will be released on Saturday.
The siblings killed then-29-year-old Sonya Speights, who was their father’s girlfriend, in 1999. Curtis is currently the youngest convicted murderer in the U.S. and the brother and sister duo are the youngest to be tried for murder as adults.
According to Florida Today, Curtis was released around 7am on Tuesday from the South Bay Correctional Facility. During his time in prison he became an ordained minister.
WFTV reports Curtis and Catherine planned to kill a relative who had sexually abused them, but instead focused their attention on their father and his girlfriend for failing to protect them from the abuse.
Catherine married a pen pal while in jail and looks forward to starting a life with him as a free woman.
