Carol, which is sure to be a player during the awards season this winter, finally has a trailer. With the film set to be screened at the 59th BFI London Film Festival in October, StudioCanal has released a short teaser.
The film, which looks like an immaculate recreation of 1950s America, stars Cate Blanchett as Carol, a housewife who falls in love with a shopgirl, played by Rooney Mara. Kyle Chandler co-stars as Carol’s husband.
It was directed by Todd Haynes (I’m Not There, Safe), who memorably brought to life the 1940s in HBO’s Mildred Pierce miniseries. The film is based on a Patricia Highsmith story.
Carol received wide acclaim after its premiere at Cannes, where Mara shared the Best Actress prize. It will be released by The Weinstein Company in the U.S., and will open on Nov. 20. It will have a U.K. gala premiere during the BFI London Film Festival on Oct. 14.
