Three weeks after the San Diego Comic-Con, Ryan Reynolds delivered on his promise to release the full Deadpool trailer that effectively won over the convention. Coming just a year after the response to a leaked test reel reinvigorated Fox’s interest in giving the X-Men universe mercenary a movie, the trailer proves that the Deadpool we’ll see on Feb. 12 is the Deadpool of the comics.
The red-band trailer was surprisingly shown in full on Conan last night before Fox posted it online this morning. It does a good job of introducing the character to audiences who aren’t familiar with him, showing how he gets the super skills he needs after being diagnosed with cancer.
It’s also filled with some nice in-jokes that break the fourth wall, with Reynolds asking that the suit not be green (a dig at his Green Lantern flop) or animated. T.J. Miller also gets a couple of insults in about Deadpool’s scarred face. You can also see some of the scenes that were in that leaked test footage.
“I think it’s an absolute miracle that the studio let us make Deadpool, let alone a rated-R Deadpool,” Reynolds said at SDCC last month.
