Nearly a month after he was first linked to Star Wars: Episode VIII, Oscar winner Benicio Del Toro confirmed that he is at least talking with Disney and Lucasfilm about a part in the movie.
Back on July 20, TheWrap reported that Del Toro and the studios were in early early talks about a villain role in the follow-up to The Force Awakens. Of course, Disney didn’t comment on the report, which isn’t surprising since the move won’t be out until May 2017.
Of course, that doesn’t stop Del Toro himself from talking about it. He told Entertainment Tonight at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Grants Banquet this week that he thinks it could happen.
“I can’t tell you much about it but I think that it might happen. It looks like it’s gonna happen so I’m very excited,” the Traffic actor said. “I can’t talk too much about it. The script is hard to get. They told me they’d cut my finger if I talk about it.”
Looper director Rian Johnson has been hired to direct Episode VIII.
Del Toro will next be seen in Sicario, which opens on Sept. 18 and co-stars Emily Blunt. He also has a role in the Marvel universe, debuting as The Collector in Guardians of the Galaxy.
The Force Awakens opens on Dec. 18.
