More details about the IMAX release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens has hit the web and it will be exciting for anyone hoping to see the film more than once. The film will reportedly have all IMAX screens nationwide to itself for a month.
This is the first time the IMAX company has made a deal like this since it agreed to give Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit movies exclusivity for a month.
The Hollywood Reporter also notes that The Force Awakens also lucked out, since other potential IMAX releases will be out of theaters before Dec. 18. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 and Spectre both open in November and should finish their runs by then. Warner Bros.’ In The Heart Of The Sea will get a one-week IMAX run starting on Dec. 11.
MakingStarWars.net also had some interesting notes about The Force Awakens’ IMAX release, noting that theaters with “real” IMAX screens (the ones that are eight-stories tall) will get to show the film with actual 70mm prints for the scenes shot in that format. The site claims that director J.J. Abrams shot a big action scene with a 70mm IMAX camera, so seeing it on a really big screen will be a must.
Also, The Force Awakens ticket presales should start in late September or early October, according to MakingStarWars.net.
The Force Awakens stars Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega and Daisy Ridley. Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill have all returned to play their classic Star Wars characters again.
