Authorities in San Antonio have been puzzled by the disappearance of a woman’s body from her casket and suspect that someone took the remains after her funeral service concluded.
The San Antonio Express-News reported that police said the body of Julie Mott, vanished from the Mission Park Funeral Chapel on Aug. 15 sometime between the hours of 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. Employees at the establishment found the 25-year-old deceased woman’s coffin empty the following morning and contacted law enforcement.
“There wasn’t any forced entry to the facility,” Sgt. Javier Salazar said. “So what it’s believed is between the hours of 1:30 p.m., when the service ended, to about 4:30 p.m., when they locked up for the evening, someone came in and stole Ms. Mott’s remains. That person remains at large.”
So many questions as to why someone would take and what they would do with her body have gone unanswered at this time. One theory is that whoever took the remains may not have supported Mott being cremated.
Her family urging anyone who knows or saw anything to contact police immediately. The funeral home is also seeking the public’s help and has offered a $20,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of the remains.
Mott died on Aug. 8 from cystic fibrosis.
