Amy Schumer and New York Senator, Chuck Schumer, have teamed up put an end to gun violence.

Today, Amy Schumer and her second cousin, Chuck Schumer, came together to urge for tighter laws on gun control. In a press conference titled “Schumer & Schumer: Enough is Enough,” both Schumers addressed this country’s need for stricter gun laws. “We need a background check system without holes and fatal flaws. We need one with accurate information that protects us, like a firewall. Critics scoff and say, ‘there is no way to stop crazy people from doing crazy things.’ But, they’re wrong. There is a way to stop them. Preventing dangerous people from getting guns is very possible,” the comedian said.

According to the New York Times Senator Schumer has long been an advocate for stricter gun control laws. The Schumers goal was to introduce a plan “that was effective but that could actually pass,” Senator Schumer said today. Mr. Schumer suggested that the legislation introduced would serve a few purposes, one being that it would “require the states to send the information they have about felons, spousal abusers, and those adjudicated mentally ill to the federal government, and if not face a penalty but if you do you will be compensated for it.”

Ms. Schumer recently began advocating for stricter gun control laws after the July 23rd shooting at a showing of her film, Trainwreck, in Louisiana. Both the comedian and the movie’s director, Judd Apatow, expressed their sorrow for the shooting. This weekend Ms. Schumer replied to a fan on twitter who asked her to become an advocate against gun violence, to which the actress replied, “Don’t worry I’m on it. You’ll see.”

Ms. Schumer touched on gun control in one of her Inside Amy Schumer sketches this season. You can watch the clip below.
