The American Film Institute said today that its annual AFI Fest will open with By The Sea, the new film directed by Angelina Jolie and co-starring Brad Pitt, in November.
The film will be screened at the TCL Chinese Theatre on Thursday, Nov. 5 as part of the Opening Night Gala presented by Audi.
“Time and again, Angelina Jolie Pitt has proven herself an artist of the highest caliber,” AFI President and CEO Bob Gazzale said in a statement. “It is an honor for AFI to celebrate her latest story with its World Premiere – and in doing so – to shine a proper light upon her boundless creative energies as actor, director, writer and producer.”
By The Sea is a period piece set in 1970s France at a seaside resort when a married couple (Pitt and Jolie) begin to face their own issues as they meet other travelers. A trailer was released earlier this month and it is scheduled for wide release on Nov. 13.
The cast also includes Melanie Laurent, Niels Arestrup, Melvil Poupaud and Richard Bohringer.
This is Jolie’s third directing effort. She previously directed In The Land of Blood And Honey and last year’s Oscar-nominated Unbroken.
