An autopsy done on escaped New York prisoner Richard Matt revealed that he was intoxicated when he was shot and killed by a border patrol agent.

The Associated Press noted that on Wednesday offcials said additional results of Matt’s autopsy revealed that the convicted killer had a blood alcohol level of 0.18 percent. That number is more than twice the legal limit for operating a vehicle in the state.

As previously reported, Matt was fatally shot in June by member of the U.S. border patrol's tactical team. He died of brain damage and skull fractures.

Weeks earlier, he and fellow inmate David Sweat escaped the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora. The scheme was so elaborate that authorities suspected that they had help from prison employees. A female industrial training supervisor at the prison’s tailor shop has plead guilty to smuggling contraband in, which aided the prisoners in their escape. The woman, Joyce Mitchell, also allegedly planned to be their getaway car after they broke out. However, she failed to show up with a vehicle the day of the alleged plan. If convicted, she faces up to seven years behind bars.
