Charlize Theron's Furiosa was by far the best character in Mad Max: Fury Road, but although another installment is happening, Theron isn't signed on to return in any future movies.

Not long after Fury Road was released, director George Miller confirmed he was working on another sequel called Mad Max: The Wasteland, according to IndieWire.

The USA Today recently caught up with Theron to ask if she'll be in the new movie, and not only is she not signed on, but she didn't even know it was happening.

Theron asked, "What's Wasteland? This is all news to me. I have not heard anything like that."

It's not as if nobody is attached yet, as Tom Hardy is officially signed on for three more Mad Max sequels, according to Esquire. So it sounds like while Hardy will definitely return as Max, we may have seen the last of Imperator Furiosa.

Of course, it's still possible for the studio to sign on the actress, but it's a little strange that she wouldn't even have been contacted about the sequel whatsoever in all this time. Could Miller be looking to keep any future movies standalone, with no recurring characters other than Max himself?

Mad Max: Fury Road hits blu-ray and video-on-demand on September 1.
