Christian Bale has found his next project, which will give him the opportunity to work with Michael Mann again. He will star as Italian car innovator Enzo Ferrari.

The project got moving in April, when Mann signed on. It is based on Brock Yates’ book Enzo Ferrari: The Man, The Cars, The Races.

Deadline reported this afternoon that Bale has already committed to the project, which should start filming next summer. The next challenge is getting distributors and financiers interested at this fall’s festivals, which shouldn’t be a problem with the talent already linked to it.

Bale and Mann previously worked together in Public Enemies, which also starred Johnny Depp. The actor was recently seen in Exodus: Gods and Kings and his next film is Adam McKay’s The Big Short. Bale also stars in Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups, which will be out in March.

Bale was probably able to commit to the Ferrari movie because another project of his, Fox’s The Deep Blue Good-by is no longer in production after he was injured while shooting The Big Short.

Mann’s previous film was Blackhat with Chris Hemsworth, which was dumped in theaters in January and earned a mixed response. His other films include Heat and Collateral.
