Colin Farrell's talents are often not completely recognized in True Detective's latest season, but maybe he'll have more luck when he joins the continuation of another beloved series. The Irish actor is the next high-profile star to join an already-exceptional cast in the Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Farrell joins Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Erza Miller, Dan Fogler and newcomer Alison Sudol in David Yates' (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix through Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2) comeback to the series. He's set to portray Graves, THR reports, a New York wizard our lead Newt (Redmayne) befriends during a visit.

Now, why is New York playing a factor in this? It's because Fantastic Beasts takes place 70 years before Potter and his friends came to legends. This follow our soon-to-be-renowned wizard main character during his adventures within secret communities of witches and wizards, as he documents their magical creatures and unusual behavior. Miller and Waterston play wizard Kredan and witch Tina, respectively, who serve presumably as the Ron and Hermione to Newt's Harry. Sudol is Tina's sister, Queenie, and Fogler is expected to play Jacob, a muggle, though some suggest this part also falls under Newt's rival, a role Michael Cera and Josh Gad are still considered in contention for. Unlike the previous movies in the series, this comes from a direct screenplay from author J.K. Rowling, in what Warner Bros. hopes becomes a new trilogy/franchise.

David Heyman, a producer from the original Harry Potter movies, also makes return to the world of Hogwarts with this, as are Steve Kloves — the writer behind seven of the eight original movies — and Lionel Wigram. Production begins later this fall, presumably sometime soon in fact, with a November 18, 2016 release date set.

Though Farrell only has this Sunday's 90 minute episode left during his tenure with HBO's ever-popular anthology series, he's got two other projects slated for later this year. They are both independent films, Yargos Lanthimos' (Dogtooth) acclaimed Cannes hit The Lobster and the one-time Se7en sequel Solace, the latter receiving its first trailer earlier today.
