Disney showed off two teaser posters for Alice Through The Looking Glass, the sequel to the 2010 hit Alice In Wonderland that sparked the studio’s obsession with turning animated films into live action blockbusters.
The two illustrated posters were shared by the studio on Facebook. Both show a trail of melding clocks in water. Alice is at the center of the first, while the Mad Hatter is in the middle of the other, looking away from the viewer.
Alice Through The Looking Glass began filming last year and will feature Mia Wasikowska again as the title character. Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter and Matt Lucas all returned. Rhys Ifans, Sacha Baron Cohen and Ed Speleers joined the cast. Stephen Fry, Toby Jones, Alan Rickman, Michael Sheen, Timothy Spall, Paul Whitehouse and Barbara Windsor are voicing animated characters.
Tim Burton directed the first film, but James Bobbin, who helmed the recent Muppet movies, was picked to replace Burton. Linda Wolverton (Maleficent) wrote the script, based on the Lewis Carroll stories.
In 2010, Alice hit $1 billion at the international box office and won Oscars for art direction and costume design. The sequel is set to hit theaters on May 27, 2016.
And speaking of Depp, he was also at the D23 convention in Anaheim on Friday. The studio named him a new Disney Legend.
