The first teaser for HBO’s all-star Westworld aired just before last night’s True Detective season two finale. The project is based on Michael Crichton's 1973 sci-fi film Westworld and was written and directed by Jonathan Nolan.
The series is set in an amusement park world, where androids recreate life for visiting guests and things are about to go wrong. Running just 30 seconds, the teaser doesn’t reveal much plot-wise, but gives us a feeling for the series and an idea for where it can go. There’s definitely some scary elements in there, especially with Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Robert Ford.
Other members of the cast include Evan Rachel Wood, Jeffrey Wright, Shannon Woodward, Miranda Otto, Thandie Newton, James Marsden and Ed Harris.
Executive producers on the show include Nolan, Lisa Joy, J.J. Abrams, Jerry Weintraub, Bryan Burk and Kathy Lingg. Producer Athena Wickham is co-producing with Susie Ekins. It is produced by Bad Robot, Kilter Films and Jerry Weintraub Productions with Warner Bros. Television.
Westworld premieres next year.
