The first teaser for The Hateful Eight, Quentin Tarantino's eighth film, is finally here, promising us a violent, wordy and claustrophobic Western shot in beautiful Ultra Panavision 70.
The trailer introduces us to the “Hangman,” played by a mustachioed Kurt Russell and his prisoner, Daisy Domergue, played by Tarantino rookie Jennifer Jason Leigh. (Seriously, what took Tarantino so long to find her a part in his movies?) Major Marquis Warren (Samuel L. Jackson) accompanies them to a small inn, where they have to stick out a winter storm.
Everyone else in the inn looks pretty evil. The other members of the cast includes Bruce Dern, Walton Goggins, Michael Madsen, Tom Roth, Zoe Bell and Demian Bichir. Channing Tatum is supposedly in the film, but he’s nowhere to be found.
While at San Diego Comic-Con, Tarantino revealed that the score was written by the legendary Ennio Morricone. It will be the first time that a Tarantino film will not feature previously recorded music on the soundtrack.
The Hateful Eight will hit theaters on Christmas Day, but only to theaters that will be outfitted with projectors to show actual 70-millimeter film. It will go wide on Jan. 8.
This will be Tarantino’s first film since 2012’s Django Unchained, another Western that was also released on Christmas Day. The film won two Oscars, including Best Original Screenplay.
