After getting to know human characters played by James Franco and Jason Clarke, the new Planet of the Apes sequel will be bringing in a brand new actor for the lead role.

According to Deadline, Gabriel Chavarria has been cast as one of two human leads in War of the Planet of the Apes. Chavarria is known mainly for his role as Jacob on Hulu's East Los High. He has also appeared on shows such as Gang Related and Aquarius, and in the upcoming Universal film Low Riders.

Not much has been revealed about Chavarria's character, and we don't yet know if any other humans from Dawn will return for War or if the sequel will replace most of the cast again. However, what really matters is that Caesar will be returning, and the ape is really the main character of this new series. Also returning will be Dawn director Matt Reeves, as we previously reported.

Reeves has said that War of the Planet of the Apes will see Caesar "becoming the seminal figure for ape history," comparing him to the Moses of the new ape society.

The new Planet of the Apes films have done rather well, with Dawn grossing $708 million at the box office. That's the highest grossing of any of the Planet of the Apes movies, and a huge step up from Rise of the Planet of the Apes's total of $481 million worldwide.
