The Green Bay Packers announced on Monday that wide receiver Jordy Nelson will miss the entire 2015 season.
Nelson will miss the season due to a significant right knee injury. He suffered the injury during Sunday’s preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. During the first quarter Nelson went up to make a catch and went down to the ground and clutched his leg despite no contact with a defender. The initial diagnosis was a torn ACL and that appears to be what the injury is, according to CBS Sports. Nelson will need surgery and should be back for the 2016 season.
"It was determined that WR Jordy Nelson sustained a significant right knee injury in yesterday's game at Pittsburgh," the Packers said in a statement. "He will miss the remainder of the season."
Nelson is under contract through the 2018 season. Last season he had 98 receptions for 1,519 yards and 13 touchdowns, according to ESPN. The receptions and receiving yards were career-highs for Nelson.
Davante Adams will most likely be Nelson’s replacement. Randall Cobb is now the Packers leading receiver. The Packers also have Ty Montgomery as a receiver.
