The Guinness World Records has determined the oldest living cat is Corduroy, who is 26 years old. His owner, Ashley Reed Okura, has had him since she was 7 years old.

Corduroy obtained the title again after the unfortunate death of Tiffany Two, who was 27 years old. Corduroy lost the title to Tiffany Two last year, but upon her death, Corduroy claimed it again.

Considering domesticated cats have a lifespan of 15 years, Corduroy is exceeding expectations. However, he’s not the oldest cat to ever live. That title goes to Crème Puff, who lived to 38 years old and died in 2005.

“We are thrilled!” Okura said of her cat’s world record. “I bought Corduroy a mouse to celebrate … it is wonderful to share him with the world.”

CNN reports Okura credits Corduroy’s long life to being free to roam the outdoors in Oregon.

"The secret has been allowing him to be a cat -- hunting and getting plenty of love!" she said. "Growing up on 160 acres in Oregon, I allowed Corduroy to roam the ranch freely, so he always gets lots of exercise."
