With Avengers: Infinity War bringing Thanos to Earth and having all the Marvel characters team up to stop him, fans have been assuming this would mean the Guardians of the Galaxy would cross over with The Avengers. But if Jeremy Renner is to be believed, you shouldn't get your hopes up.
At Wizard World Comic Con Chicago 2015, Renner spoke on a variety of Marvel related topics, and he was asked about a Guardians/Avengers crossover. His response? "Is that gonna happen? Do you know more than I know?"
He went on to joke, "You're gonna be like eighty by the time that happens. And I'm certainly not going to be Hawkeye, I'm gonna be a dead guy."
So is it really not going to happen then? Renner might simply have not been let in on all of Marvel's future plans, or he may have been joking to avoid giving anything away. But he isn't the first person associated with Marvel to make similar comments. Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn said last year that they're trying to keep the Guardians part of the universe relatively separate from the Avengers part of it. However, he wouldn't confirm or deny that the characters would actually meet.
"When I'm asked about the Guardians and their future, and whether they'll meet up with the Avengers I really don't have all that much to say, because some of it isn't decided yet, and I don't want to give away what is decided," he said.
Really, though, having Thanos be the main villain of Avengers: Infinity War and not having the Guardians be involved doesn't make much sense, does it? We got our biggest glimpse of Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy, and that movie established that he's Drax's main rival who he has to track down and kill. How unsatisfying would it be if Drax is in a completely different part of the universe when Thanos is defeated?
Avengers: Infinity War - Part 1 hits theaters on May 4, 2018.
