Actress Jessica Alba has also made a name for herself as an entrepreneur after co-founding The Honest Company. That has sparked comparisons between her and Gwyneth Paltrow, who also has her own company, but Alba doesn’t like being lumped together with the Goop founder.
In a new cover interview with Allure, Alba said that such comparisons are unfair and even sexist.
“What I think is unfair is to lump actresses together,” Alba said. “People aren't lumping Justin Timberlake and Ashton Kutcher together. They do other businesses. I think it's expected that when you get success in one area, you're supposed to evolve and try to do something else—especially in business, and especially if you're a man.”
Since focusing on her company, Alba has been more selective when it comes to movie roles, although she did recently star in Entourage. She told Allure that she has always been very careful to avoid playing stereotypes.
“I never wanted to play into a stereotype, where it's like, 'Oh, you're just the girl who gets saved by the guy,' and she doesn't know how to make decisions, and she gets overwhelmed with all this stuff happening around her," she told the magazine. "Women are freaking resilient.”
Alba’s Honest Company has been in the news lately, but not for good reasons. Earlier this month, the company had to respond to claims that the company’s sunscreen is ineffective. The Honest Company stated that the complaints “constitute less than one half of one percent of all units actually sold.”
