Neill Blomkamp is hard at work on the new Alien movie, but we might not see it for longer than expected thanks to Prometheus 2.

According to Bloody Disgusting, Twentieth Century Fox is still definitely making Alien 5, but production has reportedly been put on hold. Why? Because Ridley Scott insists that Prometheus 2 is released first.

Blomkamp is still working on his Alien 5 screenplay, while Scott plans to shoot Prometheus 2 early next year. If everything goes according to schedule and there are no delays, that would mean Blomkamp will shoot his film in 2017 for a 2018 release date.

None of this is definite, and it's possible those deadlines won't be met, but it's good to see that there's at least a plan in place. It's a bit weird that Scott is insistent on Prometheus 2 coming first, considering it's highly unlikely that movie will affect the plot of Alien 5, but if this all gives Blomkamp more time to perfect his script, it may be a blessing in disguise.

As we previously reported, Blomkamp's Alien will be a traditional sequel that will bring back Sigourney Weaver in the lead role. The director has been posting some awesome concept art to hold us over until the movie hits theaters in a few years, and it looks absolutely amazing. Between that and Ridley Scott's sequel, there's a whole lot for Alien fans to be excited for.
