Mark Wahlberg is starring in a new movie about the Boston Marathon bombing, and CBS films has just hired a director.
According to Variety, Peter Berg is in final negations to direct Patriot's Day. Berg has previously directed Mark Wahlberg in the war film Lone Survivor, and he has also worked on films such as Battleship and Hancock. Berg has a fair share of television experience as well, developing Friday Night Lights and directing several episodes of the series.
Patriot's Day will be produced by Scott Stuber, Dylan Clark, Stephen Levinson, Michael Radutzky and Mark Wahlberg himself, as we previously reported. The movie will follow the five day search for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev based on the account of Boston Police commissioner Ed Davis, who Wahlberg is in talks to play. Davis had a key role in tracking down and apprehending the suspected bombers.
This isn't even the only Boston Marathon bombing movie in development right now. There's also Stronger at Lionsgate, which Jake Gyllenhaal is being eyed for. That one tells the story of survivor Jeff Bauman, who lost both of his legs in the bombing. Fox also has their own Boston Marathon movie in development called Boston Strong, directed by Daniel Espinosa (Safe House).
Patriot's Day is expected to begin production this year.
