A Lowe’s manager in Danville, Virginia is under fire for agreeing to a racist request from an unidentified woman that her African American delivery driver, Marcus Bradley, get replaced by a white one.
Alex Brooks, Bradley’s white co-worker was with him in the truck when he got the phone call.
“I got a phone call telling me to bring the delivery back,” Bradley explained to WSET. “I asked him why I couldn’t do it and he said because you’re black and they don’t want you at the house.”
Brooks said “it just ain’t right for a business that we work at to go on with the woman’s wishes.”
Bradley and Brooks have been working together for the past 11 years at Lowe’s. Meanwhile, the unidentified customer was interviewed and said she doesn’t feel bad about making the request.
"I got a right to have whatever I want and that's it,” she said. “I don't feel bad about nothing."
After an investigation into the incident, Lowe’s confirmed they fired the manager who made this insensitive call.
"We've reached out to the drivers, and one of our senior executives went to the store to apologize to them in person," Lowe’s spokeswoman Chris Ahearn told The Washington Post. "We have zero tolerance for discrimination of any kind, and we should never have accepted the terms of the sale with the individuals who were delivered to."
