If you were hoping to see a proper followup to Man of Steel, you may have to wait quite some time.
Den of Geek is reporting that Man of Steel 2 isn't exactly Warner Bros.' top priority and that the studio currently has the project on "permanent hold."
The good news, though, is that it does appear that George Miller is in talks to direct the film, as we previously reported. Since filmmaker Jon Schnepp dropped that bit of news, additional sources have confirmed that Miller is indeed in negotiations with Warner Bros', although it isn't 100% clear if it's for Man of Steel 2 or if it might be for another project. That evidently will depend on what story interests him, and on what his take on it would be.
This delay does make sense considering DC's incredibly packed slate. At the moment, their schedule extends all the way up until 2020, including Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, Justice League, The Flash, Aquaman, Shazam, Cyborg and Green Lantern Corps. With two DC movies every year for the next five years, there doesn't seem to be much room for another Man of Steel in there.
And that slate doesn't even include the upcoming Batman films. Ben Affleck will reportedly be starring in not one but three Batman films in the near future. To summarize, including that new Batman trilogy, that means DC is currently working on twelve upcoming films. With that in mind, putting another Man of Steel on hold for now might make a lot of sense.
