American Jewish rapper and indie artist Matisyahu, Matthew Paul Miller, was scheduled to perform during an upcoming music festival in Spain but his performance has been cancelled due to outside pressure from anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement.
The reason behind the cancellation and pressure came after Matisyahu wouldn't sign a pledge that supported the Palestinian state, Fox News reported.
Matisyahu was going to play on Aug. 22 at the Rototom Sunsplash, he has since been replaced with Etana who is originally from Jamaica. This music festival has become known for having very strong social justice views, especially for promoting a Palestinian state.
Artists that were scheduled to perform during the festival threatened to pull out of their slots if Matisyahu didn't support the pledge because it would be seen as him "representing Israel," The Times or Israel added.
Miller is known by his Hebrew name Matisyahu and started releasing music back in 2004 and has been very outspoken and open about his religious beliefs.
