Nia Vardalos and John Corbett made an appearance on the Today Show to talk about My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, the highly-anticipated sequel that comes out in March.

The original My Big Fat Greek Wedding wowed audiences back in 2002, exceeding expectations at the box office and causing fans to crave more Toula and Ian.

“The reason I didn't want to do the sequel is because at the end of the first one, I had written that we were parents," Vardalos told Savannah Guthrie, The Hollywood Reporter notes.

"And even though I make stuff up, I couldn't write from a place of emotions that I didn't know because I wasn't a mom and then I became a mom, so instantly, so suddenly."

Vardalos and her husband, Ian Gomez, adopted a baby in 2008 and since then, her perspective has changed. But when it comes to Corbett, his stance never faltered when it came to the possibility of a sequel.

“The truth is, I didn't think it was over," he said, adding he “sort of gave up” on it. “So it was really a huge surprise when — I guess just about this time last year — [Nia] called and said, 'I got an idea. What do you think? Do you want to do it?' And nobody on this team was happier than me."

They’re now even considering another sequel, with Vardalos revealing she “whisper[ed] an idea in his ear the other night for number three."

All of Vardalos' family members in the film will be back for the sequel, even her grandmother.
