There’s a new Colonel Sanders in town, but he’s still played by a member of the Saturday Night Live family. Norm Macdonald has replaced Darrell Hammond in a new group of ads for KFC.
The fast food chicken chain only brought back the Colonel in May, reviving their mascot. However, with a new menu item to sell, they’ve got a new Colonel.
Each of the three ads feature the ‘new’ Colonel explaining that Hammond’s Colonel was a fake. Macdonald’s Colonel claims that he is the real Colonel. Of course, the real Colonel Sanders, who started the restaurant chain, died in 1980.
“Other than not quite looking like him, his voice being different, and his inability to cook the world's best chicken, we thought Norm was the perfect choice to play the Real Colonel. I think the fans will agree,” Kevin Hochman, chief marketing officer for KFC U.S., told Adweek.
