Police say that Brittany Pilkington of Bellefontaine, Ohio killed her three young sons over a period of 13 months. They say that she confessed to the murders after calling 911 to report that her 3-month-old son wasn’t breathing.
Pilkington, 23, was charged with three counts of murder Tuesday, just hours after calling 911. Police told The Associated Press that they went to her apartment Tuesday morning after the emergency call. She calmly told the operator that 3-month-old Noah wasn’t breathing. Noah was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Authorities also suspect Pilkington in the deaths of her other young sons. Gavin, 4, died in April 2015 and Niall, who was also three months old, died in July 2014. Their deaths were already at the center of an investigation. In each case, their father Joseph Pilkington found them at home after work.
Logan County Prosecutor William Goslee told The Columbus Dispatch that Pilkington admitted to killing the three children in the same manner in each case, by putting a blanket over their heads to suffocate them.
The parents also share a four-year-old daughter, Hailey, who was taken in by Logan County Children Services.
Bellefontaine is 60 miles northwest of Columbus. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is assisting local police in their investigation.
