Every band deserves a vacation, especially one that’s released four albums in four years and is working on a fifth. But since One Direction isn’t “just” another band, the group’s planned break turned into a break-up rumor. Singer Niall Horan gave fans an update on their status.
Over the weekend, a report from the U.K. tabloid The Sun sparked concern among fans that they were planning on breaking up since they will not tour after they release their fifth album. A rep for the group refused to comment on the “speculation” immediately.
Horan ended up acting as the group’s spokesman to respond to the rumors.
“Ok so Lots of rumours going round. We are not splitting up, but we will be taking a well earned break at some point next year,” he tweeted. “Don't worry though, we still have lots we want to achieve ! Can't wait for you to hear all the new music we have for you and to perform.”
Another rumor was that the singers plan on signing solo deals, but The Mirror says that’s not true.
One Direction is now made up of Horan, Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson. Zayne Malik left the group earlier this year to start his own solo career.
The group did recently release their latest single, “Drag Me Down,” which will be featured on their fifth album. The record is set to be out before the end of the year.
