Swedish prosecutors have decided to drop its sexual misconduct case against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
CNN reported that prosecutors announced that they are dropping the sexual molestation and coercion allegations against Assange, 44, citing the statutes of limitations.
The Associated Press noted that the unlawful coercion allegation expired Thursday and a third molestation case would have on Aug. 18. The WikiLeaks founder is still wanted for questioning in a rape case, which expires in 2020.
He has sought asylum in the Ecuadorian embassy in London in 2012 to avoid extradition to Sweden and has denied the allegations; calling the part of a smear campaign.
"From the beginning I offered simple solutions. Come to the embassy to take my statement or promise not to send me to the United States," he said. "This Swedish official refused both. She even refused a written statement."
Assange became known in the United States in 2010 when WikiLeaks published U.S. military and diplomatic documents leaked by Chelsea Manning. He has been under investigation by the U.S. ever since.
