Tom Hardy might not have been able to get into Suicide Squad, but the British actor has found a different DC Entertainment property to star in. He is reportedly joining 100 Bullets, an adaptation of the acclaimed Vertigo series set up at Warner Bros.’ New Line.
The news was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Hardy, who just starred in Warner Bros.’ Mad Max: Fury Road, will produce under his Hardy Son & Baker banner with Dean Baker. He is also considering starring.
100 Bullets was written by Brian Azzarello, with art by Eduardo Risso, and ran from 1999 to 2009. It centers on Agent Graves, a mysterious man who gives people a gun, the name of the person who ruined their lives and untraceable bullets. The film will be written by Chris Borrelli (The Vatican Tapes).
Geoff Johns and Adam Schlagman will oversee for DC with Richard Brener, Walter Hamada and Dave Neustadter of New Line.
This is the second Vertigo movie in the works. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is currently working on an adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman. In June, Warner Bros. decided to move all its Vertigo projects to New Line, which is home to the studio’s recent genre fare.
As for Hardy, he will next be seen in Legend and The Revenant. He previously worked with DC and Warner Bros. as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises and was supposed to play Rick Flagg in Suicide Squad. However, work on The Revenant forced him to pull out of that project and the role went to Joel Kinnaman instead.
