A man in Toronto has donated more than 150 crocodiles, gators and caimans, which he kept as pets, to a reptile zoo.
Good Morning America noted that several volunteers with the Indian River Reptile Zoo were called to the man’s home to collect the animals.
"Interestingly enough, this individual phoned our rescue and told us he could no longer take care of the 150 crocodiles, alligators and caimans," Loyst said. "I didn't really believe it, but when I went over there, sure enough, it was true."
Loyst commented that he was glad that the pet owner sought help from the zoo.
The Toronto Sun reported that the reptiles were kept in an “industrial/residential” garage and all appeared to be in good health.
The names of the man and his wife who had the reptiles as pets, have not been made public. They could each face legal action and fines up to $5,000 since the reptiles are banned under Toronto’s bylaw.
