Authorities have said that the Florida vacation home of the Minnesota dentist who killed Cecil the lion was vandalized this week.

Reuters noted that police in Marco Island have not been able to determine the exact time that the vandalism took place but said it was reported on Tuesday.

The vandals spray-painted the words “Lion Killer” on Walter Palmer’s garage and threw what appeared to be pig’s feet in his driveway.

The crime is being investigated as a case of criminal mischief.

Public outrage has been directed at the dentist ever since news broke that he paid $50,000 to kill a rare black-maned lion in Zimbabwe last month. Palmer and two other men are said to have lured Cecil out a national park, then wounded, tracked and killed the animal.

Palmer received death threats and was forced to close his practice last week; telling his patients to seek dental treatment elsewhere.

He is an avid hunter and claimed the killing of Cecil was legal.
