Warner Bros. has so many Ben Affleck projects in the works that the studio doesn’t seem to know what to do with them. So, they’ve just delayed them. Two movies with the Argo director will be coming out much later than expected.
The Accountant, directed by Warrior’s Gavin O’Connor, was expected to be the next time we would see Affleck on the big screen. It was previously scheduled for Jan. 29, which would mean it would be coming out just before Affleck would have to promote March 25’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
The studio must like the way that film has turned out too much to bury it in January. According to Variety, it will now come out on Oct. 7, 2016. Affleck plays an accountant in the film, which also stars John Lithgow, Anna Kendrick and Jeffrey Tambor. By night, Affleck’s accountant is an assassin.
Up next is Live By Night, which was officially greenlit by Warner Bros. in July. This is supposed to be Affleck’s directing follow-up to Argo and is based on the Dennis Lehane novel about a small-time Boston gangster who builds a crime empire in Florida during Prohibition.
The movie was supposed to come out on Oct. 7, 2016 but has now been pushed to 2017, likely during the awards season.
These moves are being made as Warner Bros. is reportedly hoping to get Affleck to co-write and direct a solo Batman movie. He plays the caped crusader in Batman v Superman.
Affleck was last seen in Gone Girl and will also plays Batman in Suicide Squad. He’s also signed to appear as Batman in the two-part Justice League movie.
