The fast-food chain Arby’s has publically apologized for refusing to serve a customer, who is a member of law enforcement, for being a cop.
FoxNews.com reported that the refusal of service occurred Tuesday evening when a uniformed officer in a marked police car attempted to order food at the drive-thru window in Pembroke Pines, Florida. The officer claims they were denied service by the Arby’s employee and told it was because they were a police officer.
“I don’t have the exact quote, but something was said to the effect of ‘We don’t want to serve you because you’re a police officer,” said Maj. Carlos Bermudez of the Pembroke Pines Police Department.
The Daily Caller News Foundation noted that Bermudez would not say whether or not he thought the refusal was due to anger towards officers after the recent events involving police in Ferguson, Missouri and Baltimore. He did say, however, that he was appalled that one of his officers was treated in such a way.
Eventually, the officer was served their food by another restaurant worker and Arby’s has since apologized for the incident.
“We take this isolated matter very seriously as we respect and support police officers in our local communities,” the company said in astatement. “As soon as the issue was brought to our attention, our CEO spoke with the Police Chief who expressed his gratitude for our quick action and indicates the case is closed. We will be following up with our team members to be sure that our policy of inclusion is understood and adhered to.”
