A young girl whose body was found on Deer Island in Boston in June has been identified as Bella Bond. Her mother is under arrest and her mother’s boyfriend is being questioned.
Bella’s body was found on June 25 in a trash bad, reports CBS Boston. The girl had been known as “Baby Doe” as police searched for information. This week, police received a tip, which was enough for state police to obtain a search warrant for an apartment in Mattapan.
Residents of the building said that police were looking for a woman named Rachelle Bond, who has since been identified as Bella’s mother. They told CBS Boston that it had been months since they last saw Bella.
WHDH reports that Bella was almost three years old. She was a case for the Department of Children and Families, but those cases were closed in 2012 and 2013, Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker said.
Sources told WHDH that Rochelle Bond was arrested and her boyfriend is in custody.
Massachusetts State Police and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office both said that their investigations are still ongoing. It hasn’t been announced what charges Rochelle Bond could face.
