Director Christopher Nolan likes to keep things about his movies a mystery until they hit theaters, but this might be a bit much. On Tuesday night, Warner Bros. announced the release date for Nolan’s next movie... and that’s it.
The studio said that Nolan’s next movie, which is currently known as Untitled Christopher Nolan Film, will hit theaters on July 21, 2017. But there was no further information. There’s no title, no cast, no writers. We know absolutely nothing other than that release date.
Whatever the film is, it will be the follow-up to Interstellar, Nolan’s sci-fi epic that wasn’t quite as well received as some hoped it would be. While the film might go down as a cult sci-fi film, it failed to gain critical traction and only ended up with Oscar nominations in technical categories. Its stunning visual effects did earn an Oscar and the film scored four other nominations.
If the film winds up keeping the July 21, 2017 release date, it will have some competition. Pitch Perfect 3 is currently scheduled for that date, as is a new, unknown Fox animated movie. Luc Besson’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is also scheduled for that date.
Maybe Universal and Warner Bros. worked out a deal to get Nolan to direct Pitch Perfect 3?
Of course, Warner Bros. and Nolan have a long relationship. He directed the Dark Knight trilogy for the studio, as well as Inception. Warner Bros. also worked on Interstellar, but Paramount handled domestic distribution.
