After the absolutely massive success of Jurassic World, Universal is getting a sequel into theaters by 2018, and now Colin Trevorrow has provided some hints at what the plot might be.
First of all, Trevorrow noted that he actually thought of Jurassic World as a trilogy from the beginning, and that this influenced the way the first movie was set up. He said it was exciting to see the movie do well because he had a beginning and end to the trilogy planned, and now that can play out on screen.
So what's the plot going to be? Trevorrow once again hinted that it might not actually take place on the island.
“We made [Jurassic World] with the fans very much in mind,” he said. “And I’m not going to forget that, but we’ve seen a lot of ‘dinosaurs chasing people around on an island’ movies. And I think you guys and the general audience are going to be down to explore where else we can go."
This isn't the first time Trevorrow has made similar statements. A few months ago, he said that he didn't think the idea would always be limited to theme parks.
Trevorrow went on to say that both Claire and Owen will play a pivotal role in the rest of the trilogy, and Claire will change the most by the end.
"I think the way these characters are connected to these circumstances of what’s happening, it’s different than previous films," he said. "It’s not ‘let’s manufacture a way to get them somewhere’, they’re embedded into it now in a way that us storytellers are able to keep them involved without it feeling contrived.”
Jurassic World 2 hits theaters on June 22, 2018. Colin Trevorrow is not expected to direct, but he will return to write the film's screenplay.
