Greg Berlanti is known as the man behind the current hit DC Comics shows on The CW, but it looks like Warner Bros. is trying to get more out of his talents. The studio is hoping to get him to helm a movie that brings Booster Gold and Blue Beetle together.

News of the project was first reported by The Tracking Board, which confirms that Julia Spiro will oversee for Warner Bros. Sarah Schechter, a producer on Berlanti’s The CW shows, will executive produce.

Later, Heroic Hollywood reported that Zak Penn (The Avengers, Ready Player One) has been hired to write the script.

Booster Gold and Blue Beetle are relatively obscure characters to anyone who doesn’t read DC comics. Booster is a 25th Century celebrity whose reputation is tarnished. So, he takes superhero relics to the past to become a superhero in our present.

As for Blue Beetle, he is Ted Kord, a tech genius who takes the mantle of the Blue Beetle after his professor, the original Blue Beetle, is killed. He then uses his technology to make up for the fact that he doesn’t have powers.

Blue Beetle and Booster are frequently paired together, so it only makes sense that a movie would pair them together too.

What is surprising is that Warner Bros. would want Berlanti’s involvement. While his success on television is unquestioned with Arrow, The Flash and the upcoming DC’s Legends of Tomorrow all under his watch, his feature resume is more spotty. He’s only directed two features, with his last one being 2010’s Life As We Know It and his most recent writing credits are for Green Lantern and Wrath of the Titans.
