Google decided to celebrate its 17th anniversary today by changing its logo. Sure, upon a quick glance, it may look practically the same, but there’s a new font that makes it a bit different.
The Internet search giant announced the change today, also noting that it is changing its identity even. It’s all to better reflect the fact that Google has practically invaded every aspect of our lives, both on the desktop and on our phones. Of course, they have gone even beyond those two platforms, with TV and car dashboards.
“Today we’re introducing a new logo and identity family that reflects this reality and shows you when the Google magic is working for you, even on the tiniest screens,” the company said in a statement. “As you’ll see, we’ve taken the Google logo and branding, which were originally built for a single desktop browser page, and updated them for a world of seamless computing across an endless number of devices and different kinds of inputs (such as tap, type and talk).”
In addition to the new logo, Google is bringing its familiar four-color scheme to its other logos. For example, the blue lowercase “g” icon for the google app will be replaced with an uppercase “G” that’s in all four colors.
Google also released a nifty video showing the company’s evolution. While it is cool to see where Google started, it’s a bit scary to see how the company has figured out how to make using Google unavoidable.
