If Guillermo del Toro is to be believed, the sequel to Pacific Rim might not be completely dead after all.
Earlier this week, it was announced that production on Pacific Rim 2 had been delayed indefinitely, as we previously reported. The film was at the very least not coming out in April 2017 as previously scheduled, and there was some chance it wouldn't even come out at all anymore.
But according to Del Toro, fans shouldn't give up hope just yet. He told Entertainment Weekly that he's still moving forward with the movie, and that it will just happen later than originally planned.
"We are still turning in a screenplay and a budget in three weeks,” he said. “As far as I’m concerned, it’s not gone. We’re still on it.”
The movie is indeed delayed as was reported, and Del Toro said that he now might do another movie first, but it looks like the project isn't completely cancelled after all. Then again, Del Toro has been known to talk about sequels that never actually happen, as fans who are still waiting for Hellboy 3 can attest to.
Pacific Rim 2 was evidently postponed due to budgetary concerns. The movie was originally scheduled to be released in April 2017.
